“Northern is about supporting healing, rebuilding, and thriving for the children, youth, and families we serve across the Philadelphia Region.
Whether on our Philadelphia campus or Chester Office, in public schools, community-based settings, and family homes, we offer caring and effective trauma-informed behavioral health and child welfare services for kids and young adults from under-served, under-resourced families and neighborhoods.
Our young clients have witnessed and experienced things in their short lifetimes that no child ever should – much resulting from the unfortunate outcomes that living in cycle of poverty can produce: things like food instability and hunger, homelessness, violence, crime, incarceration, substance abuse and undiagnosed mental illness, unemployment and underemployment, lack of quality education and undereducation, health disparities, and other family disruptions.
At Northern, we get to watch our young people heal and start to shine through the unique gifts, strengths and resiliency that each and every one of them possess.
We, like every other social service organization, are facing environmental changes that dictate how we must adapt, grow and change. We are old and wise. We are young and learning. We are the oldest, wisest start-up in the city and I look forward to leading Northern Children’s Services to further success addressing the trauma of our communities, our children and our families.”
