NCS this Month: Celebrating Milestones and Success

A Message from our President and CEO

June is a very special month here at Northern.  It is a month of celebrating the successes of our children, youth, families and staff.  As I approach my own milestone on June 22nd  – my 1-year anniversary – I am reminded of why Northern is so exceptional.   When I started last year, so did many of  the children attending our summer camp and young mothers in our residential programs.  In just under twelve short months,  I see the progress of these children, youth, and families.  From progress in therapy to proms to graduations from elementary, middle, and high school and Northern’s programs, these milestones are great reminders about why we do the work that we do. RenataBlogJuneOne particular success that is featured this month is one of a very special 14-year-old.  Qutiera Jones is not only graduating from Roosevelt Elementary School, she is also graduating from our School Therapeutic Services (STS) program. Our STS program is utilized in 10 different Philadelphia public schools and supports children and youth who have emotional and/or behavioral problems that make it very difficult for them to learn in a classroom setting. Now equipped with tools to manage her behavioral challenges that promote educational attainment, confidence and motivation, Qutiera has big dreams for herself, which include moving to Los Angeles, becoming a comedian, mastering computer code, learning how to speak Spanish, learning how to play the guitar and piano, and  taking drama classes.

It is a privilege being able to witness our dedicated staff as they work to ensure every child and youth has the opportunity to work constructively through their challenges.  It is for all of these young people and their families that I work harder every single day.

On June 14th, Northern will celebrate the children and youth in all of our programs and thanks to our partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles, we will hold this event at the NovaCare Complex (the training facility for the team).   Please join us in spirit as we acknowledge and celebrate these young people, and look forward to the successes of another great year.

Thank you for your support.
